• 1. I am travelling to Darwin and I have heard that some 3 way fridges are better than others at performing in tropical climates with very high ambient temperatures. Which one of these models is rated?

  Climate Class Ratings for 3 Way Fridges are a hot topic (pun intended). The European Union fridge performance standard is becoming increasingly accepted and the main rating that caravan enthusiasts look out for is the “T” rating.

  Climate class ratings are as follows:

  • T Rating (tropical) - are designed and rated to work up to 43 degrees C
  • ST Rating (subtropical) - are designed and rated to work up to 36 degrees C
  • SN and N (subnormal and normal) - are designed and rated to work up to 32 degrees C.

  All of the Dometic [RM] range of fridges are T - Rated. Except the RM2350, RM2355. The RM8501, RM2355 and RM2350 are ST rated.

• 2. When measuring the fridge do you measure the box or front of the fridge?

  The measurements include the frame around the fridge. Please refer to the cut out dimensions for the cavity size requirements.

• 3. How do I clean my fridge?

  A good time to clean your refrigerator is straight after you have defrosted it. Clean the refrigerator with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Use a brush or soft cloth once a year to remove any dust from the condenser at the inside of the refrigerator.

  Important - Do not use soap or aggressive detergents that are abrasive or soda-based. The removable interior components of most refrigerators are not dishwasher safe.

• 4. How do I defrost my refrigerator?

  Frost will gradually build up on the condenser of the refrigerator. You should defrost the refrigerator as soon as the frost layer is about 3 mm thick. Frost reduces the refrigerating capacity and life of your refrigerator.

  • Remove the ice cube tray and all food.
  • Switch off the refrigerator.
  • Leave the refrigerator door open.
  • Place dry towels in the refrigerator to absorb the water.
  • Place trays containing hot water in the freezer compartment.
  • After defrosting (when the freezer compartment and condenser are frost-free), remove the towels and the water trays and use a cloth to dry off the refrigerator.
  • Switch the refrigerator on again.

  Important: Do not use force or sharp objects to remove frost.

• 5. Is it okay to defrost my fridge/freezer using a hair dryer, heat gun or boiling water?

  No, the sudden change in temperature will cause the inner surface of the fridge/freezer to distort. This will not be covered under warranty.
