User Tips:
- This fridge is designed to run from a 12V DC power source such as your Caravan/Camping battery bank. Running the fridge from a 12V power source will help with the longevity and performance of this fridge. Bushman recommends that when 240V power is available, use a smart battery charger to charge your battery bank and keep your fridge running direct from the batteries. You can see a suitable range of AC to DC smart battery chargers HERE if needed.
- A small number of customers may want to use this fridge in an 'offgrid living' setup and run the fridge from 240V AC power all of the time - in which case you will need a Power Adaptor to convert AC Power to DC in order to run the fridge. You can see this optional Bushman Adaptor HERE.

I'm looking at the Bushman Fridges, are they manufactured in Australia?
Great question, all the Bushman fridges are manufactured overseas, however, Bushman is an Australian owned and operated business.
-
Hi just wondering how this fridge mounts to the floor? Are extra tie down brackets required?
Hi Dean,
This fridge is designed to fit in to a cavity and is secured using the Bushman Mounting Kit that is currently being supplied free of charge with the fridge.

Does A Caravan Fridge Need 240V?
Hi John,
Thanks for your question.
Essentially no you do not always need a caravan fridge with 240V. In fact, some brands, such as Bushman, recommend a 12V fridge only. This is because of the follow reasons:
- The fridge will last longer - caravan fridges with 240V built in have a 240 transformer attached to the compressor. This transformer generates excess heat, which in turn reduces the life of the compressor.
- The fridge will cool down faster - by removing the 240V transformer from the compressor, the cooling system will produce less heat. This therefore makes it easier and faster for the fridge to cool down.
- A 12V fridge costs less - a 12V and 240V fridge requires a qualified electrician to install and service the fridge. Whereas a 12V only fridge is generally cheaper to buy, install and service.
However, having a 240V fridge allows you to connect to AC mains power when available and run 12/24 Volt DC appliances. Usually a customer who intends to use their Bushman fridge in an 'off-grid' living set up will want to run the fridge from a 240V power source the whole time and therefore use an adaptor. The better option for Caravan/Camping use is to run their 12V Fridge from their batteries. Bushman recommends that when 240V power is available, use a smart battery charger to charge your battery bank and keep your fridge running direct from the batteries. You can see a suitable range of AC to DC smart battery chargers HERE if needed.Thanks. -
Hi there, can this fridge/freezer be used just as a designated freezer, cheers
Hi There, No only the freezer compartment ( 6 litres) can be used as a freezer.

Does a 2 litre bottle of softdrink fit, in the dc85-x, laying down on the 1st or 2nd shelf?
Hi There,
As the shelves can be adjusted up and down, we see no reason why you could not lay down a 2 litre soft drink bottle on either shelf.
-
Is the Bushman DC 85 x suitable for sailing yacht designed to run while you are listed up to 30° angle. Thanks,
Hi There,
Bushman advise in the user manual that the fridge should not be exposed to angles greater than 30 degrees.
We would recommend speaking with Bushman for clarification of their use on a boat if it is exposed to 30 degree angles frequently.

Hi there just wondering I want to run the fridge of 12 V what is the recommended power cable to be run thanks
Hi,
For wiring optimum results, you will need the correct sized wire depending on the distance from your power supply to the fridge. Wiring must be directly from your fridge to your battery and should be continuous without joins.
Please also ensure the earth is wired directly to your battery, not to a chasse. If your wiring is insufficient, your fridge may not perform correctly or may be even be damaged.
For recommended wiring size and length see page 3 of the manual here: https://www.mygenerator.com.au/assets/images/resource/pdf/Bushman_DCX_Fridge_Product_Manual.pdf -
Are these manufactured in Australia?
No, Bushman is an Australian company, however their products are not manufactured here.
