A small portable fridge and freezer can be an excellent addition to your camping trip. These compressor camping fridges will run from your vehicle’s 12-volt power source and can keep your drinks icy cold, your food fresh and your meats frozen. Starting at around 10 litres in size to fit neatly inside your vehicle console, ranging up to around 100 litres in size for larger camper trailers and caravans.

The most commonly used material for a camping fridge cabinet is polyethylene (hard plastic) which nowadays is very lightweight and durable. The steel cabinet fridges from the likes of Bushman are especially sturdy and can take knocks in the back of your camper on those rougher trips. Then there are fibreglass models from manufacturers such as Evakool which perform excellently in hotter environments.

Today’s premium camping fridge-freezers are very energy efficient on a 12 or 24-volt power source (such as your car battery or camping batteries) as well as often being able to run on 240-volt mains power. Popular camping fridge models include the Dometic 75 litre and 95 litre Dual Zone options, as these have the ability to set two separate compartments to each operate independently in any combination as fridges or freezers.
