Privacy screens are a brilliant addition to your caravan's outdoor awning area. They provide shade and privacy, while protecting your outdoor area from wind and rain.
How do you attach the screen to the side of your awning?
Use an Aussie Traveller Anti Flap kit.
So what is an Aussie Traveller Anti Flap kit, why are they important, and how does it work?
Let's dive in.
Why Are Anti-Flap Kits Important?
It helps your awning last longer: If you've invested in a quality awning, you want to make sure it lasts for years to come. An Anti Flap kit can actually lengthen its life by preventing the awning from overstretching when it is flapping in the breeze.
It stops noisy flapping: The Aussie Traveller Anti Flap kit can even help you get a better night's sleep. When the wind picks up at night, you won't have to lie in the caravan listening to your awning flapping.
It gives you some privacy: When you're in a caravan park, a little bit of privacy goes a long way. You can install privacy screens and sunscreens into the Anti Flap Kit built-in sail tracks.
It adds shade: You can also keep your awning area cooler in summer by using a sunscreen on an Aussie Traveller Anti Flap kit to reduce sun and increase shade.

How Does an Anti-Flap Kit Work?
The Aussie Traveller Anti Flap Kit is essentially a rod that runs the length of your awning. It uses clamps to attach to your awning and give it extra rigidity.
Installing your Aussie Traveller Anti Flap kit is easy! There are four sections (2 pieces per end) which join together to form your full-length clamp. This clamps onto the outside edge of the awning fabric.
All instructions are included, as you'd expect, but you still may need to purchase extra parts depending on your awning model.

Follow these 3 easy steps:
Step 1. Release the clamps on the Anti Flap kit and slide the two pieces together. Screw the mounting plate to your caravan or cassette awning, and hook your Anti-Flap kit into the bracket (supplied).
Step 2. Line up the Anti Flap kit with the awning and spigot, and clamp it over the edge of your awning.
Step 3. Tighten up the tension nuts and close the clamps along the awning edge. Then repeat the steps on the other side.

Aussie Traveller also supplies Curved Roof Rafters which are an important accessory with the Anti-Flap kit. Combined, the Aussie Traveller Anti Flap Kit and Curved Roof Rafters give your awning even more support and prevent your awning fabric from sagging, which helps water run off quickly without pooling - perfect for those times when you're out exploring when the rain starts and can't get back to keep an eye on your awning.
Curved Roof Rafters are available in two sizes:
-
Mini - curvature of 90mm, suitable for brand new awnings.
-
Maxi - largest curvature on the market at 120mm, suitable for older awnings where the awning fabric is already stretched or loose.

How Do I Choose Which Anti-Flap Kit to Buy for My Awning?
The Aussie Traveller Anti Flap Kit has been designed to suit all types of roll-out and cassette awnings on caravans and RVs.
First you need to measure your awning.
For a roll-out awning, wind out the awning until the sail track on your roller is at 3 o'clock. This will avoid a gutter effect where water can pool. Measure from the wall of the van to the inside barrel of the awning.
For a box awning, measure from the caravan wall to the inside of the cassette.
Based on the measurement, choose from three sizes:
-
Short (2100-2200mm)
-
Medium (2200-2300mm)
-
Long (2300-2400mm)
If your awning has a projection greater than 2400mm, you can use extension brackets.
