Dometic Waeco Fridges vs Engel Fridges
Product Q&A

What size portable fridge/freezer should I purchase?
Dometic portable fridge/freezers comes in a wide range of sizes. When deciding on a portable fridge/freezer, it is important to remember that the larger size will require more power, it is also heavier and will take up more space.
While if you choose a smaller more compact fridge/freezer, it may be hard to fit your required food for your family during your days away.
We recommend to to choose the size that matches your required storage capacity for food, your travel habits, and weight requirements.

Does this fridge have a relay to stop drawing power from the car battery once the ignition is off? Do any of the Waeco fridges around this size have that feature? Trying to avoid a second battery due to space issues
Hi There,
Please see below what Dometic state in the manual for this fridge:
The device is equipped with a multi-level battery monitor that protects your vehicle
battery against excessive discharging when the device is connected to the on-board DC supply.
If the cooler is operated when the vehicle ignition is switched off, the cooler switches off automatically as soon as the supply voltage falls below a set level. The cooler will switch back on once the battery has been recharged to the restart voltage level. -
Could this Fridge/Freezer operate under baumr-ag bm-x20i digital inverter generator Power? This Generator Provide Continuous Rated Output: 1200W / 1.2kW / 1.2kVA (according to specification) Any explanation would be helpful as I'm planning to buy a Gene
Hi There,
Provided the generator can actually produce the specified power there should be no issue running the fridge with it.

How does this fridge cope with constant use in the back of a 4WD? I am wanting to have it running constantly as a second fridge via a duel battery setup.
Hi There,
These fridges will be just fine for constant use in the back of a 4WD.
They are designed to be portable!

Can I run my portable fridge freezer directly from a solar panel/blanket?
Hi there,
Unfortunately no, a battery must always be used to provide a continuous power supply. You must plug the portable fridge/freezer into the battery and then plug the battery into the solar panel/blanket.
The solar panel/blanket on its own is unable to provide stable and constatnt power to your portable fridge/freezer, which is required to mantain your pre-set temperature.
Thanks for your question.
-
Why do I have to ensure my portable fridge freezer is setup in a well ventilated location?
Hi there,
When a portable fridge/freezer is not properly ventilated, the unit can overheat and result in high power consumption leading to poor performance and efficiency.
It's also recommended to regularly clean the air inlet and outlet vents so that it is free from dust to prevent blockages.
Thanks for your question.

Just looking to run a cff44 as a freezer in my 4wd. Currently run a cxf3 55 off a 190 amp battery i can see on the app the 55 l uses around 1.5 2.5 amps hour. What will this one require. Dont want my battery to die as I'll be quite remote. Thanks
Hi There,
The CFF45 will use a very similar amount of power.
Dometic state that it uses on average about 0.88Ah/h.

Does this updated model have the same compressor and power consumption as the CFX models? What size solar panel do I need to power this fridge with a 40ah battery?
Hi, no this CFF model does not use the same compressor as the CFX models. The CFX models use the newer Waeco compressors. This CFF model uses the more universal portable fridge compressor from Secop.
In terms of recommended solar panel size, a minimum of 80 watts in size is advised, however to ensure you have more than enough power in all conditions, around a 120-160 watt solar panel is often the best option.
Remember its best to use the solar panel to charge a battery, as opposed to running the fridge directly from the solar panel as voltage will drop if clouds come overhead for instance.
Thanks

What are the differences between the previous model CFF45 and the new model CFF45 PACK?
There are only a few differences between the previous model and new model:
- Fridge - weight increase from 18.6kg to 18.9kg
- The new model has the inclusion of an insulated cover
- Cover - material and colour change from silver to grey (different from CFF-IC45)
-
What is the difference between the Dometic CFX3 portable fridges and the Dometic CFF portable fridge models?
The Dometic CFX3 range is the top of the line in portable camping fridges, they include some of these features which set it apart:
- roll around evaporator design on all inner walls of the fridge (this takes the load off the compressor to save power)
- removeable lids
- drop down handles (not fixed)
- Wifi / Bluetooth enabled + USB outlets
- a VMS03 in-house compressor, which is variable speed and has a soft start up to maximise efficiency
The Dometic CFF fridge range is less spec'd (they do not include the above listed features) and are cheaper. The CFF models uses a common compressor. So overall the CFF models have slightly less bells n whistles than the CFX3 range, but are still an excellent high quality & efficient camping fridge option from a leading global brand in the RV/Outdoor market.
Both ranges are very popular with Australian travellers, with the CFX3 range being slightly more popular with our customers.
