Product Q&A
-
How often do I need to service my Dometic RV/Caravan appliances?
Dometic recommend servicing their gas appliances on a yearly basis, even if the vehicle has not been used. Additionally, bear in mind that insects can built nests in the gas appliances which will cause the appliances to stop working. It can also cause potentially dangerous scenarios.
For other appliances, such as refrigerators and air conditioners, to ensure the appliances to work efficiently and last longer it is recommended to clean the condenser.
-
How do I deactivate the child-lock in my RUA/RUC model refrigerator?
These models have a great lock for children to prevent any accidental adjustments. You know that you have activated the child-lock if you are unable to change the temperature or the power source. You can either permanently deactivate or temporarily override the lock - please see below:
- Temporarily Override the Child-lock:
- Push the control knob 3 times within 1.5 seconds
- The lock will be reactive again after 10 seconds without touching the control knob
- Permanently Deactivate the Child-lock:
- Start with doing a temporarily override, after that simply turn off the child lock in the settings menu
-
My vehicle has a battery management system, will that cause a problem?
Battery management systems switch off the power supply to the refrigerator as soon as the vehicle engine is switched off for longer than 30 minutes. The refrigerator requires a constant DC power supply to operate. If your vehicle has a battery management system, just be aware that it may switch of the DC power to the fridge. Dometic recommend deactivating the battery management system.
-
When should I defrost the refrigerator?
Defrost your refrigerator as soon as a layer of ice forms in the freezer compartment. The freezer compartment will require periodic manual defrosting, recommended if the frost layer is higher than 3 mm.

When you say the product is 75W @ 240V, won't it also be 75W at 12V just with a higher current draw (310mA Vs 6.25A? So this leads me to a further Q: is the 75W the power consumption when the compressor is running (max consumption) or is it an average? Th
Hi Bill,
The ratings are supplied by Dometic in their tech specs for this refrigerator.
The 75W would be an average.
The rated current at 12V is 10.5A.
Power consumption at ambient temperature of 32 °C, +3 °C refrigerator: 3.0Ah/h @ 12V

Will the fridge work of a generator ( not an inverter type )Regards Maurice
Hi Maurice
The fridge is able to be powered by a generator as it can run on 240v.
However, I would recommend an AVR or inverter generator to regulate clean power to fridge.
Kind Regards

What vents on the side of the van are needed for this type of fridge (compressor)? Some research suggests none are needed other than a maybe a top vent. Other sites say standard upper and lower vents plus maybe a top vent.
Hi There,
Dometic recommend the use of a top and bottom vent. This allows cool air to enter the van from below, and remove the hot air from above allowing the compressor to work as efficiently as possible.

If the refrigerator has an automatic cyclic defrost system, why is manual defrosting still needed?
If the refrigerator is used for extended periods in high humidity and/or high ambient temperature conditions, frost may build up on the evaporator fins behind the internal fan cover, which can reduce the cooling performance. In this case a manual defrost is recommended. The freezer compartment will require periodic manual defrosting, recommended if the frost layer is higher than 3 mm.
