Product Q&A

Why can't a PWM controller be used for this in a 12V system?
Hi There,
This is due to the way in which PWM controllers transfer power from solar panels.
If using a PWM you need to choose a panel that is just above the voltage required to charge the battery.
In this instance a 24V panel would produce too high a voltage for a 12V system when using a PWM, hence the requirement of an MPPT controller.
What’s the advantage of the 2 x 24 Volt 200 watt solar panels that can be used with the MPPT controller for my 12 volt battery system as opposed to the 2 x 12v 180 watt solar panels that are cheaper? The 24V panels have a slight advantage in low light conditions, ie early morning and late arvo (a few amp hours extra charge per day) You will also have 80W more in total (800W vs 720W).
